One in four girls and one in twenty boys experience child sexual abuse in the United States.

These numbers are widely recognized to be significantly underestimated, as most survivors never report their abuse. The true impact of the problem is much worse.

Grooming- defined by RAINN, the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization, as the deliberate act of building trust with a child, teen, or at-risk adult for the purpose of sexual exploitation- is an abuse of power that thrives in silence. As our nation's leaders and institutions fail to hold predators accountable in a post-Epstein world, grooming and sexual exploitation have become increasingly normalized and pervasive, demanding the need for systemic change, policy reform, and widespread community awareness. 

Deliberate calls for a critical examination of the ways in which abusive relationships are normalized and underscores the urgent need to address issues of consent, power, and control in today's world. The film aims to promote meaningful change by humanizing trauma: offering a necessary lens into survivors' silence, abusers' self-justification, and the cycle of abuse that endures. Through the protagonist’s journey, the audience experiences how children are manipulated into believing that they are “in control” of their own abuse, how the grooming process can so easily be mistaken for love, and how much strength it takes to work through the effects of trauma.

Importantly, the film offers no easy answers. Instead, Deliberate compels audiences to consider these issues long after the credits roll, with the goal of effecting broader cultural change in how we navigate consent, power, and accountability as a society.
